A post, for all you readers out there.... Anyone? Hello?

Can SOMEONE besides Mythrei and Anonymous (I'm not complaining, your comments are wonderful. Keep 'em coming) PLEASE start posting some comments on my blog... It helps me know I'm not just talking to myself on here...

Onto the post:
We, as humans, have things we want. We have things that would make us "happy" if we were to achieve, gain, understand, know, or whatever, the object of our desire. What makes us " want" these things, though? why do we "desire" things that we may never get? Is it only because people tell us that we want these things, or that we are just looking to be happy? Or is it, in my dark, misanthropic, pessimistic, view, something else...

I think that we want things because it simply "fits" at the time. If we are happy, we want something that can make us -more- happy. If we are depressed, We want something that can make us even -more- depressed. Whether it is because we think that is what we deserve, or if its is just the way things happen, i don't know. I only know that when i am depressed, i always end up on my bed listening to depressing music mulling over the not-so-wonderful past, and when I am happy, I am going around laughing, humming to myself, and bursting into random fits of laughter every so often, all the while doing something... "fullfulling"...

Well, I'm off. Here's the quote:
"The laws that keep us safe, these same laws condem us to boredom. Without access to true chaos, we'll never have true peace. Unless everything can get worse, it won't get any better."
Chuck Palahniuk

  1. I agree with you fully and there are two sides to it.
In one sense we,as people, do searce these matereal objects like a status symbol to keep up with or be greater than our peers.
On the otherside, many people due use the idea of "getting things" as a false sense of happiness to cover up sadness or lonliness in there own lives. That is a very short lived happiness until the next purchase.
Dont get me wrong tho it is very important to have dreams and goals, and also to work twords and acheive them.
many people (myself included) are always in the search of true happiness and never seem to find it by making all the wrong decisions or finding temporary "fix" of happiness and completely drowning in it making them completely numb and not close to happiness at all.

  2. Ummm... I don't really know what exactly makes us want the things that make us happy. It's probably something that is unique to each person because everyone wants different things to keep themselves happy.
Personally, I believe that all of us need a purpose to live. Something that gives us a reason to live, that drives us to do something with ourselves, and that keeps us from utter boredom. These are the dreams, and aspirations, and goals that people set for themseves. Of course, I realise that isn't the answer to your question, but the question is a rather difficult one to answer... :\
That everyone wants something is a given. Why they want anything at all is a question for the people who 'want' to know the answer. Unfortunately, philosophy isn't my thing.. :(

  3. Oh! And a tip for a greater audience... You should read more blogs. Read, follow and comment. Most probably, the people out there have no clue that your blog exists... So all the best.. :)
